About the Dean’s Staff Award
Through the SVM People First Initiative, Dean Mark Stetter established the SVM Dean’s Staff Awards Committee in 2024 to enhance recognition of staff contributions to the School of Veterinary Medicine.
This recognition highlights staff contributions with a broad and impactful presence throughout the UC Davis SVM community. Candidate nominations should encompass contributions to the school’s mission:
- Advancing animal health
- Environmental protection
- Public health
- Economic development through high-quality education, research, and service programs
This annual award underscores the significant role staff members play in serving the people of California and beyond.
Nomination Process
Calls for nominations are solicited in an email to all staff, faculty and students from the Dean’s office. Everyone is encouraged to submit a nomination. Your input is invaluable, and every nomination helps us ensure that we’re celebrating those who make a difference.
For 2025, there is one nomination form for the staff members of the year awards (overall, teamwork, positive impact, innovation, and professionalism). The second nomination form is for the champion in philanthropy award.

If the nominator wants the staff member to be considered for the Dean's Staff Member of the Year Award, they should include information for all categories.
Dean’s Staff Member of the Year Award
Demonstrates strengths in the areas of teamwork, positive impact, innovation, and professionalism. Determined by a composite score of each area.
SVM Teamwork Award
Collaborates effectively with others to achieve common goals.
SVM Positive Impact Award
Contributes to the well-being and productivity of the work environment.
SVM Innovation Award
Introduces new methods that significantly benefit the organization.
SVM Professionalism Award
Maintains a high level of integrity while producing quality work.

SVM Champion in Philanthropy
This award honors exceptional faculty and staff champions who partner closely with the development team to share the compelling stories of the School of Veterinary Medicine and its transformative impact on society. These individuals serve as trusted subject matter experts, passionate ambassadors, and true partners in thought and action. Through their dedication to collaboration and relationship-building, they play a vital role in advancing philanthropy and driving the school’s mission forward. Their commitment and insight are essential to inspiring support and shaping a better future for animals, people, and the planet.
